Taxi and Tourist Operators Rally at Jantar Mantar Against Ethanol and Pollution Control Policies
Taxi and tourist transport operators held a large protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, opposing ethanol fuel rules, pollution-control measures, and mandatory panic buttons. Led by association president Sanjay Samrat, the demonstrators demanded practical, industry-friendly policies from the central government.
The protest focused on a series of grievances that operators claim have disrupted livelihoods and increased operational burdens. Addressing the gathering, Samrat outlined the association’s objections to the mandatory installation of panic buttons, the government’s ethanol-related fuel policy, and recent pollution-control requirements. He alleged that these measures have resulted in inconvenience, financial strain, and forms of exploitation that, according to the operators, have gone unaddressed by authorities.
Participants demanded that the central government implement policies that reflect ground realities and offer feasible solutions for an industry that serves as a backbone of urban mobility and tourism. Many operators stressed that while they support safety and environmental goals, the current framework lacks clarity, affordability, and practical implementation pathways.
As the demonstration concluded, the association reiterated its call for a comprehensive dialogue with policymakers. Organisers said they intend to continue pressing for industry-friendly reforms that balance safety, environmental responsibility, and economic sustainability. The protest underscored growing unrest within the sector and highlighted the need for constructive engagement between the government and transport operators in the months ahead.
